Indications
Halog Ointment (Halcinonide Ointment) 0.1 % is indicated for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.
Dosage and Administration
Halog Ointment (Halcinonide Ointment) is available in tubes of 15 g, 30 g and
60 g and also jars containing 240 g of ointment.
Normal dosage:
Apply a thin film of 0.1 % Halog Ointment (Halcinonide Ointment) to the affected area two to three times daily.
Overdose: Topically applied corticosteroids can be absorbed in sufficient amounts to produce systemic effects
Drug Description
The topical corticosteroids constitute a class of primarily synthetic steroids used as anti-inflammatory and antipruritic agents. The steroids in this class include halcinonide. Halcinonide is designated chemically as 21-Chloro-9-fluoro-11ß ,16α,17-trihydroxypregn -4-ene-3,20-dione cyclic 16, 17-acetal with acetone. Graphic formula:

It has the following molecular formula C24H32ClFO5 with a molecular weight of 454.96.
Side Effects
The possible side effects of this drug include- blurred vision, halos around lights, an irregular heartbeat, insomnia, weight gain and fatigue.
Precautions
- Do not use plastic bandages, dressings, or diapers that do not allow air to circulate to the area (occlusive dressings) unless your doctor directs you to do so. The use of occlusive dressings can greatly increase the amount of drug the body absorbs. If you do use an occlusive dressing, do not use it for more than 12 hours a day.
- This drug belongs to the FDA pregnancy category C and this means that it is not known whether using this medicine during pregnancy will affect the foetus.Do not use this medicine without consulting your doctor.
- Do not use this medication to treat a child, unless it is prescribed by a doctor for the child. Children are more sensitive to the effects of this medication.
