Generic Name: Levobunolol hydrochloride

Indications
Betagan ophthalmic solution is indicated in the treatment of lowering intraocular pressure and also may be used in patients with chronic open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
Dosage and Administration
Betagan Opthalmic Solution is available in the measurement of 5ml, 10ml and 15ml.
The recommended starting dose is one to two drops of Betagan ophthalmic solution 0.5% in the affected eye(s) once a day. Typical dosing with Betagan 0.25% is one to two drops twice daily.
Drug Description
Chemical name: LevobunololHCl:
(-)-5-[3-(tert-Butylamino)-2-hydroxypropoxy]-3,4-dihydro-1(2H)-naphthalenone hydrochloride.

Side Effects
The following additional adverse reactions have been reported while using Betagan:
Headache, chest pain, hypotension, heart block, nausea, diarrhea, depression, hypersensitivity, bronchospasm, respiratory failure, nasal congestion.
Precautions
- Do not touch the dropper to any surface, including the eyes or hands.
- If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying this medicine. Ask your doctor if contact lenses can be reinserted after application of the medication.
- Do not use other eye medications during treatment except under the direction of your doctor.
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established
Drug Interactions
Avoid Betagan with:
Beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), bupivacaine, calcium channel blockers (eg, diltiazem), catecholamine-depleting agents (eg, reserpine), digoxin, disopyramide, flecainide, insulin, ketanserin, phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine), quinazolines (eg, alfuzosin), Clonidine, alfentanil, apomorphine, cholinergic agents, cholinesterase inhibitors ,epinephrine ,iloprost inhaled, MAOIs, non-selective ,maraviroc, reserpine ,sotalol ,sufentanil ,tadalafil. |
